How to Use Reddit Vault as Springboard to Web3 on Polygon

No items found.

A blockchain wallet is like a passport that lets you travel the Web3 world visa-free. That’s why Reddit’s October announcement that users have created more than 4 million of its Vault blockchain-based wallets was a major adoption event by a mainstream audience.

With a Reddit Vault in hand, there are only a few formalities keeping the users from exploring the future Internet. Here is how to get started on a journey of a lifetime.

Reddit Vault Basics

In July, Reddit launched Collectible Avatars, limited-edition personal profile pictures backed by non-fungible tokens on Polygon. Redditors store and manage collectibles and community points in their Vault digital wallets that work across Ethereum-compatible blockchains.

A Vault wallet is associated with an address starting with 0x and comes with a private key. Control of the private key is synonymous with ownership. The key can be backed up with a separate password on Reddit or via a 12-word recovery phrase. If the phrase is lost, there is no power in this world, Reddit or Polygon, that can help you get it back. More information is available in official documentation.

How to Web3 With Reddit Vault

Metamask is the most popular blockchain wallet and can be used in combination with your Reddit Vault wallet to get the most out of Web3. It takes only a few simple steps to set up. First, get Metamask and set it up for use on Polygon. It will take but a minute:

Next, you will need to find your Vault’s recovery phrase by accessing your Vault’s settings. You can always access your Vault on Reddit’s mobile app. Or, if you have backed up your recovery phrase up to Reddit, you can also access the Vault on desktop.

Copy this recovery phrase to your clipboard. Once you have it, you can import your Vault into Metamask. And you are done!

You can now transfer your Reddit Collectible Avatars or list and sell them on popular NFT marketplaces like Rarible and OpenSea. You can also buy crypto or swap for other tokens and begin exploring the wonderful worlds of music NFTs, Web3 games and much more.

Polygon is home to tens of thousands of decentralized apps, including some of the most prominent Web3 names such as Aave, OpenSea, The Sandbox, and Uniswap V3. The network’s low fees, fast transaction speeds and carbon neutrality are also among the reasons why companies like Adidas, Robinhood and Stripe have chosen Polygon as their gateway to Web3
