Polygon goes live in desktop and mobile versions of Opera's highly-praised Crypto Browser Project and in the Opera browser for Android.

Opera's newest addition focused on crypto enthusiasts brings Web3 experience on the go, serving as an entry point to a number of decentralized applications (dApps) and metaverse platforms. This integration gives Opera users an easy, in-browser access to Polygon's rapidly growing ecosystem of over 7,000 dApps and transactions that are cheaper and faster.

"Our Crypto Browser Project makes access to the decentralized web as smooth and enjoyable as Opera users already enjoy with Web2," said Susie BattJorgen Arnesen, Crypto Ecosystem LeadEVP - Mobile & Web3 at Opera. "By integrating Polygon, we are removing the last road-block of high gas fees and slow transaction speeds and opening our community of users up to Polygon's thriving ecosystem of dApps."

Opera's non-custodial crypto wallet built into the browser supports the Ethereum Web3 API and allows users to transact with Polygon’s native token MATIC. The browser also lets users make fiat-to-crypto purchases of MATIC as well as P2P transfers on the Polygon network. The Opera Crypto Browser Project supports Polygon dApps (Web3), ERC-20, and ERC-721 tokens with ERC-1155 integration planned within the coming weeks.

This integration, which includes a direct fiat to crypto onramp, essentially bypasses the need for users to transfer assets from Ethereum to Polygon — increasing the environmental benefits of using Polygon's layer-2 solution. Bridge contracts alone account for about 70% of Polygon PoS gas usage. By circumventing the need to bridge assets, Opera users can dramatically reduce their carbon footprint.

“The speed at which Opera is moving to make Web3 accessible is incredible,” said Arjun Kalsy, VP of Growth at Polygon. “It’s a goal we share with Opera and, with Polygon integrated within their crypto browser, hundreds of millions more users can now enjoy low fees, fast transactions, and direct access to the Polygon ecosystem.”

Opera Crypto Browser is available in beta for Windows, Mac and Android, and will soon be available for iOS. Stay tuned to our blog for the latest on the Polygon ecosystem!
