Origin Protocol - Polygon August Adrenaline Series

No items found.

Polygon has been one of the fastest-growing Dapp platforms for Ethereum scaling, rapidly becoming the de-facto standard for DeFi, NFTs, and Blockchain Gaming with 500+ Dapps, ~7M daily txns, and 1.8M+ unique wallets.

The rise of gaming on Polygon has been especially noticeable, with more than 100,000 blockchain gamers on Polygon and top Web 3 games, and Aavegotchi is one of them, building high-quality gaming experiences thanks to Polygon’s high speed and fast confirmation times.

This tight-knit and exponentially growing gamer community is what led to the creation of Polygon Studios: a brand new arm at Polygon that is focused on growing the global Blockchain Gaming and NFT Industry, and bridging the gap between Web 2 and Web 3 gaming.

Introducing Polygon August Adrenaline: an initiative to highlight and get to know the Gaming & NFT projects on Polygon a little better!

The next project in this series is Origin Protocol!

Please tell us more about your project and your team.

Origin Protocol’s mission is to bring NFTs and DeFi to the masses. Our flagship products are Origin Dollar (OUSD) and our NFT Launchpad. OUSD is designed to be an upgrade to Tether (USDT). It is the first stablecoin that earns competitive Decentralized Finance (DeFi) yields passively in your wallet. Origin’s NFT Launchpad helps creators unlock new forms of fan engagement and monetization while giving them direct control over content and branding. The Origin NFT Launchpad is known for hosting record-breaking NFT sales.

Our team is one of the very best in the blockchain. One of the founders of Paypal is one of our leading engineers. We also have senior engineers from YouTube, Dropbox, and Google. We’re backed by an all-star list of global investors including Pantera Capital and angel investors like Steve Chen (founder of YouTube), Alexis Ohanian (founder of Reddit), Garry Tan (former Ycombinator partner), etc.

Where are you in the hype cycle for gaming and NFT’s?

The size of the NFT Gaming space is tiny compared to traditional gaming and esports. We’re only just seeing the start of higher quality titles being launched that are taking advantage of blockchain and NFTs. In particular, play-to-earn games have proven to be incredibly lucrative and popular. Much like DeFi, we believe it’s here to stay and we look forward to seeing what innovations will be coming to the space in the near future.

Who are some thought leaders you follow in the space?

There are so many great thought leaders out there it’s impossible to name them all, but a good list to get newcomers to the space started would be: RealmissNFT, DeezeFi, Paddy_Stash, krybharat, pranksyNFT, whaleshark, ohshinyy, pak, fvckrender, coldie, hackatao, xcopy.

And of course, there are several top tier artists who should be on everyone’s radar such as NessGraphics, Ferocious, Knight and Giant Swan.

What are some best ways for newbies to get up to speed in space?

CoinTelegraph put out a great resource early on in the NFT hype cycle that provides a visually compelling overview of NFTs. I’d recommend anyone new check it out here: https://cointelegraph.com/magazine/nonfungible-tokens/.

Other than that, the best thing to get up to speed is simply to get involved! If it’s NFT gaming you’re interested in, you’ll find an entire community on places like Discord and YouTube creating regular content aimed at introducing beginners to the space. For NFTs in general, there are several Discord communities such as Whaleshark where people come together to discuss the latest drops.

At Origin, we are also regularly hosting live Clubhouse events with top NFT artists. Usually these are in relation to a drop they’re holding on the Origin NFT Launchpad, however it’s still a fantastic opportunity for anyone new to the space to listen in and learn about what makes these NFTs so valuable, as well as the thought and effort that goes into them. There’s typically a chance for listeners to get involved and ask questions to the artists directly too.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about your project?

A lot of people know Origin as the company that worked on some of the biggest NFT drops of all time, including 3LAU’s record-setting tokenized album, Charlie Bit My Finger, and more recently the Ethereal drop with Don Diablo, Trevor Jones and Alotta Money. However, what a lot of people don’t know is that Origin has built an entire platform to power these drops.

The tech we’ve built that powers these drops forms the basis of a complete NFT platform powered by Origin Protocol that can run primary drops, secondary marketplaces, and even an aggregated NFT marketplace. Very soon we will be opening up our platform for anyone who wants to do a drop, free of charge, with secondary marketplaces coming later.

At the core of all this is OGN, which is our governance and fee accrual token. Every drop performed on the Origin Platform accrues value to OGN in the form of fees or buybacks.

Why did you choose to build on Polygon?

It’s always been a major focus of ours to take blockchain and crypto mainstream. Our work in the NFT space is no different. Unfortunately, minting fees on Ethereum can at times be exorbitant and lead to minimum price points that exclude many mainstream fans who would otherwise be interested in purchasing an NFT.

By leveraging Polygon we are able to mint NFTs at a fraction of the cost. This in turn allows us to work with creators on launching NFT drops that are accessible and appealing to their regular fan base, as well as NFT collectors. This is critical in expanding the number of NFT collectors from tens of thousands to hundreds of millions.
