Polygon will be at Blockchance to present findings from its month-long Africa tour about the state of blockchain on the continent.

Polygon Hermez undertook the journey with the support of the Ethereum foundation and found a booming and vibrant blockchain community. On Dec. 4, Polygon’s Enterprise Lead Antoni Martin will present our insights from the trip.

We conducted more than 200 interviews with local entrepreneurs and regulators in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. With 50% of the population under 15 years old, they are leapfrogging to new technologies. As an example, Kenya is already leading in global mobile payments. Africans are seizing the opportunity to bypass the lack of infrastructure in the banking system for new DeFi solutions. And as a next target, blockchain technology should provide options to serve the underbanked and support humanitarian initiatives.

In order to identify opportunities for Ethereum in the region, Polygon Hermez asked a few key questions: what approaches worked? Which ones didn’t, and why? What are the regulators and key players thinking? Understanding how new technologies propagate on the African continent, will contribute to Polygon’s mission in assisting Ethereum with its Next 2 Billion initiative (#N2B).

This three-day Blockchance conference kicks off on Dec. 2 in Hamburg and is the most important enterprise blockchain event in Germany and one of the biggest in Europe. The organizing team is dedicated to promoting this emerging technology that promises a positive and sustainable future by helping ensure the integrity, availability, and authenticity of data in the public domain.

Polygon's presence at the Blockchance conference comes on the heels of a breathtaking year. More than 3,000 apps have been integrated, up from only 30 apps this time last year. Polygon plans to provide more solutions for partners and developers to ensure continued growth of the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
